Believe You Are Brave
My name is Abbie and for many years now I have wanted to start something that would support others and help people with mental health feel connected. Being able to speak up about mental health is never easy, but with more people speaking out about their experiences we can help each other and build a platform the spread the word. I am in recovery for an eating disorder, anxiety and depression. I use the term recovering lightly as it’s still very much a part of my life. I am a self-harmer, this is progressively getting better but there’s still times in which I fall weak to the act and when all my emotions are out of control.
I created my blog ‘Believe you are brave’ at the end of 2017 although only built up the courage to share it publicly at the beginning of 2018. My blog is something that’s personal from me to anyone who wants to read. I have never really shared my story with people but now’s the time to talk about mental health. Being able to speak up has not always been easy, there’s always been fear attached to sharing your own experiences. I aim to help others by be providing tips and ideas based on my own experience and research that could have a positive influence on your life. Communication is the key to helping yourself and although it is difficult at times, I have found it is one of the most important things to do. Helping one another will help ourselves. The other thing about me is I am a professional wrestler. If you were to look at both the sentences together you wouldn’t think that someone like me would ever even think about being a wrestler, but wrestling helped me to save my own life in many ways.
The idea for the shop is something I have always had in mind to further the help and spread awareness of Mental Health, 30% of all the proceeds will go to the charity Beat. My personal Wrestling T-shirts will also be up for sale over the coming months with the same amount of proceeds going to Beat.
‘Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.’
I will always make time to read through messages and help anyone out, even if it’s just for someone to talk to.
